Jim Ehlers’ practice involves construction litigation, mediation and arbitration, representing general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, owners, developers and public agencies on private, state, local and federal works of improvement. He has substantial experience in government contracts, ranging from bid protests and disputes, construction and design defects, changes, differing site conditions, delays and surety bond claims. Projects have included light rail systems, bridges, schools, pipelines, highways, prisons, ship repair, reservoirs, convention centers, commercial buildings, military housing, missile systems, wastewater treatment projects and residential.
Mr. Ehlers is both mediator and arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, member of the San Diego Superior Court Panel of Mediators, American Bar Association Forum Committee on the Construction Industry, Public Contracts Law Section, and lecturer in Construction Law at San Diego State University.
Mr. Ehlers has served on the Downtown YMCA Board of Directors 1975-1992 and as chairman 1987-1989, chairman and Board of Governors of the San Diego County YMCA 1983-1985, Board of Elders of La Jolla Lutheran Church 1975-1979, president and board member of Luther View Apartments, a non-profit housing project for low income seniors 1994-1996.
